Magic

It's no secret that I have an obsession healthy and totally normal appreciation of saddle pads.

I have tried quite few and learned what I like and what is 'meh'. One issue that I have with Carmen is that often the saddle pad will slip behind the saddle at the withers. That's because she has a flat, Andalusian wither with a broad Andalusian barrel. The Lemieux saddle pads work well with that- especially the one with a roll in front. I've been following Hufglocken on FB for a while and wondered if their pads were as good as advertised. But I didn't really need another one.

Then they had a sale: 25% off and free delivery world wide.

I worked through the whole 'design your saddle pad' and actually managed to choose options. I then hit 'buy' and the deed was done.

That was back in July. I waited for it to be delivered.

And waited.

You see, once you pay they then make it and then ship it. With a name 'Hufglocken' I thought it would be made in Europe. Nope, it was Australia.

A few weeks ago I had notice that it was ready to be shipped. It probably took at least 2 weeks. But Friday it arrived.

eeee

TaDah! It looks like a smoking jacket!

I was quite happy with the quality. Burgundy velvet, with black and white piping and front sheepskin.
Today I tried it on Ms. Carmen. I love how it fit on her and she looks snazzy.

Carmen: at least it's not a torture device this time

In our ride today I noted that the saddle pad stayed in place. I may or may not have found myself stroking the sheepskin often (it's sooooo soft).

And Carmen was a dream. For the ride she didn't argue with me once. It was a great ride and she was lovely.

Clearly it's not just a pretty pad, it's a MAGICAL PAD that turned Carmen into a  lovely unicorn. (I mean it couldn't be that I rode well, right?).

  1. Do you think it lives up to the hype?

I love saddle pads, but I haven't yet sprung for some of the pricier ones. Back on track is as fancy as I've gotten...

But I've looked at these and the Le Mieux and find myself wondering. I mean my horse isn't sound yet, so there's that aspect too that is curbing my shopping habit at the moment.

    1. It’s hard to know until I see how it holds up. But it definitely kept the pad in place and seems to fit well. I like the Lemieux too because of they have bamboo lining that is great for sweat. They do hold up nicely.

  2. That looks GORGEOUS on her - and FWIW, you order from Australia but the pads are made in Europe, sent to Australia, and then sent to you, which is why they take so freaking long ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚ I love the two I got back in 2020 but the insane wait frustrated me!

I'm glad the magical pad turned Carmen into a unicorn though! ๐Ÿ˜

    1. Really?! Ok that’s even weirder than I thought. The wait was a bit frustrating but if I love it than I might order more knowing that.

  3. It's really a nice saddle pad and looks great on Carmen. I might try it for Rosie since she is wither challenged with a round barrel too. I was looking at the Le Mieux too.

    1. Most dressage pads are made for WB/ TB types with more wither. Fashion horse has nice pads too and are in the US.

    1. I can see why- you can design a pad to match your boots. ๐Ÿ˜

    1. It feels like cheating given that she's a gray but she does look good in it.

  9. I have the same problem with Avalon! She has flat Arabian withers and a round barrel so typically my girth slips too far forward and saddle pad slips too far back. This might be a good option for us!

  10. I was pretty happy my last vet check when the vet gave me permission to throw out and replace my older saddle pads in the interest of my horse's back =) But it was still a little hard throwing them out even though they are getting worn! (Yeah, I may be a hoarder...)
